A Thanksgiving activity that includes everybody

The gap between the meal being ready and the meal being served is the awkward hour of Thanksgiving. A word search fills it without splitting the room — a great-grandparent and an eight-year-old can work the same grid, which is rarely true of anything else on the table.

The word lists run from the obvious (TURKEY, STUFFING, GRAVY) to the things people actually remember about the day — RELATIVES, STORIES, ARMCHAIR, SECONDS. Five puzzles across three grid sizes means you can hand out different sheets, and give the sharpest eyes at the table the 18×18 while someone else gets the gentler one.

Printing enough copies for the table

Print at 100% scale rather than “fit to page” — shrinking the sheet is the one thing that undoes the large print. One US Letter page per puzzle, answer key on page two of the PDF, and it photocopies cleanly if you need a dozen.

If you are hosting a larger gathering, the November word search and the fall word search use completely different word lists, so three pages give you thirteen distinct puzzles without a single theme repeating.

Which size should you print?

Every puzzle on this page fills one US Letter sheet. What changes is how many letters share it — fewer letters means each one prints larger. The gentler grid is the one to reach for if reading the page is the hard part; the tougher grid is for solvers who want a long hunt and find the standard size too quick.

Want a whole page at one size instead? The extra large print puzzles use 10×10 grids with our biggest letters, the jumbo and easy pages use 12×12, and the giant and hard pages pack 22–24 words into an 18×18 grid.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print these thanksgiving word searches?

Click "Download PDF" under either puzzle for a print-ready US Letter file (the answer key is included as page two), or click "Print" to send it straight to your printer. Both print well on A4 too. Print at 100% scale — avoid "fit to page", which can shrink the grid.

How large is the print in these puzzles?

Each grid is 15 × 15 letters on a full page, so letters print roughly half an inch tall — far larger than a newspaper puzzle. Everything uses the Atkinson Hyperlegible typeface, designed by the Braille Institute for low-vision readers.

How hard are these puzzles?

Words run across, down and diagonally, but never backwards. There are 88 words to find across 5 puzzles, and every answer key is free with the PDFs.

Can I photocopy these puzzles for a group?

Yes — print and photocopy them freely for your family, classroom, library, activity group or care home. That is exactly what they are for.

How many Thanksgiving puzzles are on this page?

Five — three full-size grids with completely different word lists, plus a gentler 12×12 and a tougher 18×18. Hand out different sheets so nobody is finishing the same grid at the same time.

Can older relatives with poor eyesight read these?

That is what the page is built for. The grids print roughly half an inch per letter in Atkinson Hyperlegible, a typeface designed by the Braille Institute for low-vision readers. Print at 100% scale to keep that size.
